SAILING - LEARN TO SAIL PROGRAMME - HAVE A GO DAY - MONDAY 13TH TO WEDNESDAY 15TH NOVEMBER 2017

Last week the Years 4 to 6 students attended the Volvo Learn to Sail programme which was held at Manly Yacht Club. It was three days of thrills and spills. We endured typical Auckland spring weather with sunshine, wind, rain, thunder and lightning - and that was just on one day! But regardless of the weather our intrepid sailors battled the elements and had a blast. The Bics proved to be a challenge at times, but everyone enjoyed the speed. The optimists were pretty safe and secure, notwithstanding some of our sailors still managed to capsize them. The programme was intended to give everyone a taste of sailing on the beautiful Manly Beach. Please contact the Manly Sailing Club if your child is interested in attending a learn to sail programme.

ATHLETICS DAY - FRIDAY 17 NOVEMBER 2017

It was a perfect day for outside fun and sports. All the students participated to their best and gave everything a go from Years 1 through to Year 6 students. It was a day of great sportsmanship where the students supported and encouraged their class members. I have no doubt that everyone enjoyed themselves, from our sporting stars to the parents who came along to support them.
Well done to Tina Lee who broke the Year 6 school record from 2013 in the Girls Discus with a throw of 16.98m.
Congratulations to the following students who were selected to represent Wentworth at the Interschool Athletics competition on 28th November –
Year 5
Rory Brabant

Year 6

Bridie Smith

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WARRIORS - 20 NOVEMBER 2017

Wow what a match!! Wentworth Warriors won after a tense match which saw no score by either team for the first half of the game.  Wentworth had a brilliant second half, which saw them winning 6-1.
Ben Oliver was a great goalie, stopping a lot of tricky goals, and this saw him get the Player of the Day award this week.
Well done, Ben!

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 3 & 4 - MARLINS - 20 NOVEMBER 2017

The Marlins had a brilliant game this week. The opposition tried very hard but just couldn’t get past our brilliant defence. Brooke and James did Wentworth proud with their fantastic strikes, resulting in a 10-1 win.
Brooke Oliver was the Player of the Day this week, for her many goals and great general play. Well done, Brooke!

SUMMER SOCCER - YEARS 5 & 6 - 20 NOVEMBER 2017

Despite having no subs, Wentworth Warriors retained their 'top of the table' status with a win and a draw on Monday afternoon.
In their first match the Warriors despatched Gulf Harbour United 3-0, thanks to some disciplined team defending and a Player of the Day hat-trick from Jared.
The second game against Kingsway was a tight affair. Kingsway opened the scoring, but Wentworth responded with a fine goal from Annie. Both teams had chances to seal the victory, but in the end, the 1-1 draw was a fair result.
Mark Smith - Parent Coach

MINIBALL - ROCKETS - 20 NOVEMBER 2017

This week was a tough game for the Rockets, who put up a good fight against Orewa Primary. It was a sad loss for the Rockets, however it was great to see everyone trying hard to play together as a united team. The whole team made a big effort to make sure their passes were all chest passes that were directed to the right player.
The Player of the Day was Brooke Oliver for sticking on to the opposition players like glue. Well done, Brooke!

BASKETBALL - ASTEROIDS - 20 NOVEMBER 2017

It was a tough ask, expecting our Asteroids to back up and play a game after a full day out, sailing the high seas!  Despite the scoreboard favouring our opposition, the Asteroids played a determined defensive game.  Our passing was slick and our dribbling showed improved control and awareness of the defenders' positions.  Had the hoop shown us some grace, we may have had a higher score on the board as we had many excellent attempts at goal.  Bethany Smith was our Player of the Day as she was always available on attack and she chased the opposition relentlessly on defence.
COMETS game cancelled last week.
Basketball training will be held at Wentworth Primary on Sunday mornings at 9am.

SUMMER SOCCER - YEARS 3 & 4 - 13 NOVEMBER 2017

his week was a good week. We lost the first game against Orewa Primary, however we won the second game against Red Beach, scoring 4-0.
Eli had a great game, and so did Ben Rist, who kindly stepped in when we didn’t have enough players. Thanks, Ben.
Players of the Day this week were Eli and Ethan, for their great striking and good defence. Well done to both of you.
By Brooke Oliver

SUMMER SOCCER - YEARS 1 & 2 - 13 NOVEMBER 2017

We were unfortunately a few players down this week and so had no subs. Please can you let Jennie know if you won’t be at soccer – we really need all the help we can get.
Anna was magnificent this week, running end to end, working tirelessly at defence and never giving up. Well done, Anna!
Mrs Paxton has kindly offered to coach the Years 1 and 2 Summer Soccer team at 8.30am on a weekday morning.  Can you please let me know if your child would be able to attend and once we have numbers we will confirm a day.
Mrs Clark - Teacher in charge of Sport

MINIBALL - ROCKETS - 13 NOVEMBER 2017

It was a hard fought game this week this week for the Wentworth Rockets who were playing against the Stanmore Bay Smashers. Wentworth displayed some brave attacks and wonderful defences, which led to a tie at full time. Well done, Rockets!
This week’s Player of the Day was Brooke Oliver, who stuck like Velcro to the opposition and displayed some excellent defence moves, preventing the opposition from scoring more points. Good job, Brooke, carry on the great work.

BASKETBALL - COMETS & ASTEROIDS - 13 NOVEMBER 2017

It was an epic match this week when the Wentworth Asteroids faced the Wentworth Comets - and oh what a game!  The Comets were the winners on the day, however both teams played an excellent game.  It was nice to see friend play against friend and as always both teams made us proud by demonstrating sportsmanship and a great team spirit.  There was no Player of the Day for the Comets, and the Player of the Day for the Asteroids was Rory Brabant but the overall winner of the day was WENTWORTH!

Basketball training will be held at Wentworth Primary on Sunday mornings at 9am.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 3&4 - MARLINS - 6 NOVEMBER 2017

The Marlins had a great win again this week, 6-1. Everyone in the team tried their best and kept up their winning streak.
Player of the Day this week was Atia Houseman, who showed great defence skills and worked so hard that she came to school with sore legs on Monday! Good work, Atia!

BASKETBALL - COMETS - 6 NOVEMBER 2017

The Comets are pleased to say they have had a win this week, beating the Gulf Harbour Big Guys by 25-5, including a 3 pointer! Good on you, Comets, it’s great to see you back on form! Edison was the Player of the Day for executing an excellent attack during the last 30 seconds of play. Well done, Edison.

BASKETBALL - ASTEROIDS - 6 NOVEMBER 2017

This week was a better game for the Asteroids. Although they didn’t get a win, they are working on improving their game all the time. Rory was great at finding space, go Rory!
It was particularly hard as they were a very tall team!
There was no Player of the Day this week.

MINIBALL - ROCKETS - 6 NOVEMBER 2017

The Rockets won their game this week, 5-0. The team made a big effort to pass the ball to each other and worked hard on improving their defence. Great stuff, Rockets!
Ethan scored the last two layups and this saw him win Player of the Day. Well done, Ethan!!
