NETBALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WENTWORTH STARS - 3RD JUNE 2019

What a great game of Netball to watch last week!  The Wentworth Stars struggled in the first quarter to hold their own against Red Beach Tactix, but pulled it back to be real contenders for the win.  Tough conditions and a wet ball meant that our team needed to adjust the way they normally get the ball down the court.  (This was an important lesson for the winter weeks ahead.)  It was really encouraging to see our team work together and adapt to the conditions.  By the end of the third quarter, the Stars were neck and neck for the win, making for exciting viewing from the sidelines!  Despite some exceptional defence, the Tactix shooters proved too good.  Final score 9-7 to Red Beach Tactix.  Player of the Day went to Chelsea Paxton for outstanding persistence in the shooting circle.

NETBALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WENTWORTH STARS - 30 MAY 2019

The Wentworth Stars met their match on 30th May in the form of the Orewa North Strikers.  The first quarter saw our team down 7-1.  With a couple of key players missing, it was evident our team needed to adjust the way they play together.  Over the next 3 quarters the Stars really came into their own, picking up 3 more goals and only letting 2 more go.  The team can feel really proud of the way they pulled together to fight for a win.  The final score was 9-4 to the Strikers.  Well deserved Player of the Day went to Ben.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WARRIORS - 3RD JUNE 2019

The Warriors were down a player but it didn’t seem to phase them at all. They played as a team, with defenders passing back to the goalie or forward to the strikers. The strikers communicated well and were looking to create space and draw defenders. The final result was 11-0 to the Warriors. Player of the Day was Bryan for excellent defensive work and not letting the opposition past him. Well done.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 3 & 4 - MARLINS - 3RD JUNE 2019

The Marlins had a great game, they worked well as a team with the strikers communicating among themselves and the defenders also worked as one body trying to stop the opposition from shooting at goal. The final score was 11-2 to the Marlins. Players of the Day were Yolanda, for outstanding defensive work in the deep end of the pool, and Olivia, for her defensive work in both the mid-field and the shallow end of the pool.

NETBALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WENTWORTH STARS - 27 MAY 2019

The Wentworth Stars certainly played true to their name this week.  In a physical game against the Whangaparaoa Barracudas the Stars rose high and continued to shine, not allowing the physicality to put them off their game.
It is encouraging to see the continual improvement in the team each week and although it was a hard game we still remembered to slow the ball down and keep to our plan, resulting in the Stars maintaining  possession and scoring.
The Stars scored another win again this week, with a final score of 9-3.  Player of the Day was Sienna for great effort on defence, listening to her coaches and following through with the instructions.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WARRIORS - 27 MAY 2019

The Warriors knew this was going to be a tough game as both teams hadn’t lost a game.  Unfortunately, while we wanted to keep our track record intact it wasn’t our night. We were able to get through their defence and took lots of shots at goal but their goalie was just too good and blocked most of our goals. The final score was 7-3 against us. Player of the Day was Luke Vaudrey for his great defence.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 3 & 4 - MARLINS - 27 MAY 2019

After three drawn games the Marlins celebrated their first win of the season. The whole team played well and quickly took the lead, holding on to it throughout the whole game. The final score was 12-5 and Players of the Day were Elsa for stopping some certain goals and great defensive play, and Ezrah for his solid defence. Well done.
