WATERPOLO - TERM 4 - YEARS 5&6 AND YEARS 7&8 - 4 DECEMBER 2017

Wow! What an exciting end to the year for the Wentworth Flippaball and Waterpolo teams.
The Years 3/4 team has gone from strength to strength and finished the year with a comfortable win (8:1) against the Snappers to emerge the winners of their league. Congratulations, Marlins!
Players: Connor Brabant, Brooke Oliver, Ella Nathan, James Nathan, Amy Akehurst, Kahn Heath, Sienna Phillipps, Atia Houseman
The Years 5/6 Warriors had a tough game against the Swordfish and, at the start of the second half, were down 6:2. However, with strength and tenacity, they pulled the match back to finish 6:6 at full time. This forced the game into extra time, with the winner determined by a golden goal. As the Wentworth team pushed forward again, they managed to get the ball to Bridie, who pushed it into the back of the net and our Warriors emerged the winners of their league. Well done, Warriors!
Players: Bridie Smith, Rory Brabant, Amelie Che, Liam Phillipps, Ben Oliver, Joely Jones, Charlotte Sancto-Jones, Jahn Komorowski and Rosie Roberts.
The Years 7/8 team, some of whom only started playing six weeks ago, faced Rosmini in the final game of their season. With slick passing and excellent positioning, the Threshers took command of the game and were relentless in their domination of the opposition. They finished victorious with a magnificent score of 11:4 and were just nudged into third place overall in their league on goal difference. Fabulous work, Threshers!
Players: Poppy Sancto-Jones, Matthew Brabant, Orion Houseman, Liberty Jones, Aiden, Chris Oliver, Joely Jones, Charlotte Sancto-Jones, Rory Brabant, Bridie Smith.

Ms Sancto

All the players and their parents would like to thank Lara McColl for her coaching and organisation of the Flippaball and Waterpolo teams this term. With her encouragement and patience, the teams have grown and developed to achieve a fabulous set of results. Thank you, Lara!

FLIPPA BALL - WARRIORS - 4 DECEMBER 2017

This term, I have watched the Warriors improve rapidly and it has been wonderful to watch. Everyone had a go in their favourite positions and they really excelled at it. With the effort the Warriors put in this term, they too deserved their final result. The final game was extremely heart racing but they came away with the win during “Golden Goal” after taking out a draw in the game. The Warriors came away with 1st Place overall in the Years 5&6 grade. Well done to everyone involved; it has been a pleasure coaching you.

FLIPPA BALL - MARLINS - 4 DECEMBER 2017

he Marlins have played outstandingly over the past few weeks and have really deserved their final result. It was great to see a few new players this term who have picked up the sport really quickly and really well! We mixed up all the positions this term and gave each player a chance to go in their favourite positions which they really enjoyed and played well in. The Marlins came '1st Overrall'again this term and have stayed undefeated all year! Amazing effort by everyone. I have really enjoyed coaching them this term.

SUMMER SOCCER - 4 DECEMBER 2017

Two very tight games for Wentworth Warriors this week. First up Red Beach were beaten 2-0, thanks to goals from Austin and Jared and some very solid defending from Bridie and Charlotte.

The second game against Dairy Flat was a harder test (these guys are the only team to have beaten us this season). We lost our shape in the first half and found ourselves 3-Nil down at half-time. In the second half we were much more disciplined. Bridie’s long clearances and strong pressing from Bethany and Annie provided the team with a platform, from which  Austin and Jared scored 3 fine goals.  The game ended 3-3 with Dairy Flat hanging on for the draw.  A thrilling match and a great comeback from Wentworth!

MINIBALL - ROCKETS - 4 DECEMBER 2017

It was a tough week again this week for the Rockets, although they put up another almighty fight. The final result was a 13-5 loss to the Swish, although some trick goals helped Wentworth players to gain some much needed points. The team feel as though they are working well together, however, due to injury, they were a few players short this week, which made things super tough for the players who were left.
Eli managed to achieve a one handed goal immediately before the final whistle, which he was very proud of, and which resulted in him being the Player of the Day this week. Good stuff, Eli!

BASKETBALL - COMETS - 4 DECEMBER 2017

The Comets are still flying high in the results table, despite suffering a loss this week to Orewa North. It was a very minor loss, with only one point separating the teams. This week's game was fast and action-packed. Although the Comets made some great intercepts, they all agreed they will keep working on improving their passing and practise, practise, practise their shooting to avoid missing out on much needed points.
There was no Player of the Day this week, although all the team members will be definitely be working all week long on their shooting skills with a hope of being a knock out star next week. Go, Comets!

BASKETBALL - ASTEROIDS - 4 DECEMBER 2017

The game was played at a hectic pace on Tuesday and the Asteroids were up and down the court at warp speed!  The team cohesion was excellent to observe as the players backed each other up on defence and made themselves available on attack.  The ball unfortunately had a mind of its own as it just would NOT go through the hoop despite many excellent attempts by our eager Asteroids!  Our Player of the Day went to Annie Duncan for some outstanding attempts at goal and her excellent ability to steal the ball right out of her opponents hands.  Keep it up Annie.  Go Asteroids, Go!

Basketball training will be held at Wentworth Primary on Sunday mornings at 9am.

BASKETBALL - ASTEROIDS - 27 NOVEMBER 2017

The scoreboard is the traditional measure of the success of a sports team. However this is not always an accurate or reflective measure of a team's performance.  Our Asteroids may have finished behind on the scoreboard, yet the improvement in their skills-base was obvious!  The Asteroids' dribbling was purposeful, their defense was relentless and their passing was accurate.  We had many shots at goal that just didn't stick this time but next time they just MIGHT!  The scoreboard didn't show the Asteroids' fight, determination and effort across the court.  Thank you to Connor Brabant for filling in at short notice and well done to Rory for playing on after suffering an injury.  Our Player of the Day deservedly went to Bethany Smith who defended tirelessly and protected each and every ball with slick passing and careful dribbling. Well done Bethany!  It is exciting watching this team improve each week and I look forward to Tuesday's game!

Basketball training will be held at Wentworth Primary on Sunday mornings at 9am.
