SUMMER SOCCER - YEARS 5 & 6 - WENTWORTH STRIKERS - 6 NOVEMBER 2018

Summer soccer this Monday was a flash back to “WINTER soccer”. However we did not let the cold wind or showers stop us.  The team played really well, with the players starting to stay in their playing positions and passing to their team mates.  We only had one competition game this week, with our second game being a 'friendly' against a Y7/8 team from Whangaparaoa College.  Player of the Day was Brooke Oliver for her hard work and determination.
WW Strikers 1 – Red Beach Minstrels 1.

Years 5 & 6 trainings are currently postponed while the College has exams. Trainings will recommence when the College timetable returns to normal.

SUMMER SOCCER - YEARS 3 & 4 - WENTWORTH MAGPIES - 6 NOVEMBER 2018

Another fantastic afternoon of soccer! Konstantin was awarded Player of the Day for his awesome ball skills and coverage of the field. We won 1 game 3-1 and lost 1 game 5-2. Goals were scored by Oscar, Ethan, Harper and Chelsea.  Luca is a great addition to the team and they are playing very well together.
Trainings will be run at lunchtimes on Tuesday's for Years 3 & 4.

SUMMER SOCCER - YEARS 3 & 4 - WENTWORTH DRAGONS - 5 NOVEMBER 2018

While the opposition in both games managed to clip the Dragons' wings, winning 2-0 and 5-0 respectively, they were unable to extinguish the spirit shown by all members of the team who gave 100% until the final whistle.  Good lessons were learned that will only compound their strengths.  Player of the Day for her "can-do" attitude was Sienna Phillipps.
Trainings will be run at lunchtimes on Tuesday's for Years 3 & 4.

SUMMER SOCCER - YEARS 1 & 2 - WENTWORTH WARRIORS - 5 NOVEMBER 2018

The Warriors were keen to put their coaching from Mr Donavan into practice against the Westminster Minions.  We had the excitement of a penalty after a goal mouth scuffle and Jacob just put the shot wide.  The girls got stuck in to chasing the ball and showed some great commitment in defence. Timofei and Theo showed good ball skills and pushed the Minions to make some good saves.  Ezrah once again showed his understanding of the rules and gave our Referee some good advice.  We lost 4-0 but showed big improvements on last week.
After a quick rain shower freshened the team up we were ready for our next game against Kingsway Blaze. The sides were evenly matched in skill and enthusiasm and gave us much excitement on the sidelines as the teams traded goals. With only 3 minutes to go the scores were level at 2 - 2. Fresh legs from the subs bench helped keep the Warriors battling to score the winning goal but we couldn’t get through a determined Blaze team. A quick break from a sideline kick saw the Blaze score a goal in the final seconds giving a final score of 2-3 to the Blaze. Player of the Day was awarded to Theo for his timely tackles and endless running to keep the Warriors heading towards the attacking goal.

Trainings will be run at lunchtimes on Monday's for Years 1 & 2.

SUMMER SOCCER - YEAR 1 - WENTWORTH STORM - 5 NOVEMBER 2018

The first game was tough for our Year 1 team against the more experienced Whangaparaoa A team, and by the end of the first half we were down 3-0.  We recovered our defence in the second half and prevented several goal opportunities for our opposition resulting in a final score of 4-0 in favour of the opposition.  Our second game, against the Whangaparaoa B team, saw Wentworth Storm beginning to really work together.  Cyrus Luo scored a beautiful goal which was unfortunately disallowed, but strong kicking from several players and team defensive tactics resulted in a final score of 2-0.  Although we lost both games this team is improving week by week. Player of the Day went to Ophelia Cooke for a high energy performance and fast thinking on the pitch.

BASKETBALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - ROCKETS - 29 OCTOBER 2018

The Years 5 & 6 Basketball team played against Stanmore Bay School and lost 36-4.  We put up alot of shots but luck was not on our side.
By Eli Kirkpatrick, Year 5

SUMMER SOCCER - YEARS 5 & 6 - WENTWORTH STRIKERS - 15 OCTOBER 2018

WOW, what an amazing bunch of talented children, all with various sporting backgrounds!  We played our two games really well.  We are learning to play together and sorting out our positions.  With more practices and games together our team will really grow and develop.  It will be exciting for the parents to watch this from the side line. Our Player of the Day this week was Daniel Still for great saves as goalie.
- WW Strikers 1 – GHS Marcello 2
- WW Strikers 1 – Stella Rangers 4

SUMMER SOCCER - YEARS 3 & 4 - WENTWORTH MAGPIES - 15 OCTOBER 2018

The team really enjoyed their game and worked well together.  We lost to the Skyhawks 3 - 1 with Isabella scoring the goal for us.  Player of the Day was Ethan Jordan for his awesome play and coverage of the field.

SUMMER SOCCER - YEARS 3 & 4 - WENTWORTH DRAGONS - 15 OCTOBER 2018

The Dragons beat their wings and their season took off to a promising start!  After finding their rhythm they settled and tamed Stanmore Bay Tigers with a 2-2 draw before beating Orewa Daredevils 2-1.  Aston and Alex were the goal scorers, able to capitalise on solid teamwork, both in defense and attack, from the entire team. A solid performance from all, with the team sharing "Player of the Day" honours... Onward and upward Dragons!!

SUMMER SOCCER - YEARS 1 & 2 - WENTWORTH WARRIORS - 15 OCTOBER 2018

The mighty Warriors had a great time and showed great team spirit - some coaching will help our newbies grow in ability to match their enthusiasm! Two losses but lots of fun.
The Warriors showed great team spirit and energy in their 1st game against the Grey Sharks. Great defence work from Lewis and Charles and a goal from Jacob kept the score line to 1 goal each at half time. The team battled in the 2nd half while some good attacks from Elsa, Chloe and Ezrah kept the opposition busy in defence. The Sharks experience showed as they scored 2 more goals to win 1-3.
Our Warriors played Orewa Blazers next and battled hard in the heat to keep the ball in their attacking half. They were unlucky not to score and went down 0-1 at full time. The whole team worked hard and gave good support to each other. Thank you to Jack for helping on the sideline with subs, and to parents for cheering on the Warriors.

SUMMER SOCCER - YEAR 1 - WENTWORTH STORM - 15 OCTOBER 2018

The first game ever for most of our little Year 1 team and the task in hand was to just get them to get the ball going to the right end while staying within the pitch lines. (At one point they played across 2 pitches and a public pathway and were well on their way to the car park if they hadn't been herded back!) They lost both games 2-0 but this little team has definite potential and we saw some really determined players!  Player of the Day went to Daniel Campbell for really focussing on where the ball needed to be.

FLIPPA BALL - WENTWORTH WARRIORS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 24 SEPTEMBER 2018

We were playing for First place and by the end of the 1st half we were down 3 points, with the scoreboard showing 3-0. During the half we had 10 failed shots at goal; you can’t coach that! The half time talk was simply putting the responsibility back on to the team, they had to stump up if they wanted to win. They turned it around and won 4-3. The whole team played an excellent game and were all named Players of the Day.  An excellent effort and well deserved win.

FLIPPA BALL - WENTWORTH MARLINS - YEARS 3 & 4 - 24 SEPTEMBER 2018

WENTWORTH MARLINS - YEARS 3 & 4
What a great game to finish the season. The Marlins were comprehensive in their defence and strike and won 6-2. The team has made excellent progress throughout the season and deserved their win. Player of the Day was the whole team. It was truly a whole team effort. Well done.

FLIPPA BALL - WARRIORS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 17 SEPTEMBER 2018

This was a semi-final game for the Warriors. They understood that a win here would mean they would be in the finals next week and their performance was outstanding.  The defenders swamped the opposition strikers and limited their ability to take clear shots at goal. The Warrior strikers worked well by creating space or drawing defenders and then passing the ball which meant great scoring opportunities. The Warriors won 10-1 and Players of the Day were Eli for creating goal scoring opportunities, and Ella for being a safe set of hands in goal and accurate throwing.

FLIPPA BALL - MARLINS - YEARS 3 & 4 - 17 SEPTEMBER 2018

The Marlins' strikers dominated this game through their accurate throwing and unselfishly looking to pass the ball to their teammates that weren’t marked. The unmarked players were usually able to score a goal. Our defenders were also able to keep the attacking team away from the goal and reduce their attempts to score. The final score was 13-1 to the Marlins. Players of the Day went to Aston, Anna and Ollie for their great passing and unselfish play.

BASKETBALL - ASTEROIDS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 17 SEPTEMBER 2018

Even though we lost the game, the whole team played really well with lots of good passing and numerous goal attempts. There were two Players of the Day being Brooke and Annie.  They displayed excellent passing to one another as well as both being feisty and confident in getting the ball off their opponents.
by Annie and Brooke

FLIPPA BALL - WARRIORS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 10 SEPTEMBER 2018

We started the game conceding two very quick goals and before we knew it we were down 3-0. We got back a couple of goals by half time, had a chat about sticking to our game plan and then went on to win the game 6-3. It was a good game where the defenders became resolute and stopped the opposition getting any further points in the second half. The strikers also had a mind-set change and started passing to those in a position that enabled them to score points. Players of the Day were Ben Oliver for an outstanding defensive effort and Rosa Clark for her great defence and creating goal scoring opportunities when on attack.

FLIPPA BALL - MARLINS - YEARS 3 & 4 - 10 SEPTEMBER 2018

The Marlins were missing a couple of players which meant some positional changes, however in spite of these changes the team played very well. The ball went from end to end throughout the whole game, however the score was a draw at 1-1. It was good to see some passing and great defence.  Player of the Day was Chelsea Paxton for getting involved and trying to always pass the ball to players with space.

BASKETBALL - ROCKETS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 10 SEPTEMBER 2018

The Rockets played a very good game even though they lost 6-12.  Tyson & Annie were usually in a good spot to get the ball and get it up the court.  I received Player of the Day because I was all over the court & for good passing.
By Rory Brabant, Year 6

CROSS COUNTRY - INTERSCHOOL - 3 SEPTEMBER 2018

What a bright, sunny day we had at cross country last Thursday. Despite the sunny weather, the ground was muddy and there were lots of puddles to run through. The students who attended cross country did an excellent job to get around, as the course was very difficult. They had to run through sheep paddocks, dodge lambs, run up hills and jump fences. The beach run started off with a high tide, so they had two choices: run through the water or risk the soft sand. What really impressed the teachers and parents was how the children tried their best and persevered with the race. No matter where they were coming in the race, they just kept running and running. It was great to see the Wentworth team spirit as our peers ran past!

FLIPPA BALL - WARRIORS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 3 SEPTEMBER 2018

The Warriors had a good win, with our defence keeping the opposition outside the strike zone. For most of the game we played with two defenders and 4 strikers. The strikers played well and started recognising when a player was open and passing to that player. The Warriors won 9-1 and Player of the Day was Ella for great goal keeping and accurate throwing.

FLIPPA BALL - MARLINS - YEARS 3 & 4 - 3 SEPTEMBER 2018

The Marlins had a tough game and struggled to get the ball into the opposition red zone, although they did score on two of the three occasions that they ventured into that zone. Our defence tightened up in the second half as the defenders began to keep the opposition working hard. The final score was 7-2 against us. Player of the Day was Daniel Chen for outstanding defence and goal keeping.

BASKETBALL - ASTEROIDS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 3 SEPTEMBER 2018

We won 28-nil.  We played against Whangaparaoa.  Player of the Day went to Ben Oliver for scoring and playing hard.
Corbus Luke

NETBALL - WENTWORTH STARS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 3 SEPTEMBER 2018

What a way to finish a brilliant season!
Our Wentworth Stars, in pyjamas, had an absolutely brilliant final game on Thursday night.  The smiles on the faces of our girls outshone the 20-2 score!  This team has shown significant resilience and adaptability this year and we are all extremely proud of their efforts.  The attitude with which they have played the game must be mentioned, as our team has been kind, fair and polite whilst still managing to remain competitive!  Thank you to our College coaches who have given up their time to guide our girls throughout this netball journey.  You are a credit to yourselves and we are thankful to you for your support of our Primary school.  Thank you to the parents who have turned up each week to cheer on our team of all-stars - it is much appreciated.  Thank you also to Ann Neilson for kindly volunteering to manage our team - we are grateful for your time and help.  I do hope that our Year 6 girls move on to College netball and I certainly look forward to seeing the new Wentworth Stars shine on court next year.  Player of the Day was our entire team for a wonderful final performance!
Mrs McLeish

FLIPPA BALL - WARRIORS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 27 AUGUST 2018

What a fantastic game the Warriors had this week! We beat Silverdale 19-0, making it almost a goal a minute. Once again, there was good defending, great goal keeping and super striking. Vincent was this week's Player of the Day, for keeping his head out of the water and doing a great job on defence.
Shona Clark - Teacher
Training takes place Mondays, 1pm to 2pm, at the Leisure Centre.  There is no training today, Monday 27th August.

FLIPPA BALL - MARLINS - YEARS 3 & 4 - 27 AUGUST 2018

Great game, everyone played awesome.  Ollie was Player of the Day for being a great striker, scoring two goals. Special mention to Sophie Imparato who defended with determination.  We lost, 5-3 to Gulf Harbour Primary, but what an improvement team! That gap is closing!
Jennie Langridge
Training takes place Mondays, 1pm to 2pm, at the Leisure Centre.  There is no training today, Monday 27th August.

BASKETBALL - ASTEROIDS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 27 AUGUST 2018

Asteroids lost 8-5. We had a good game and played well. We had versed, and beat, the team before.  However, we weren't so lucky this time. Aayush got Player of the Day for good defence.

NETBALL - WENTWORTH STARS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 27 AUGUST 2018

The Wentworth Stars lost 12-14, playing against Red Beach. They played well and did a great job with passing, stepping and worked well as a team.  Katie was Player of the Day for excellent shooting and attack.

Trainings take place every Thursday at lunchtime.  Please remember appropriate footwear and PE kit.

FLIPPA BALL - THE WARRIORS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 20 AUGUST 2018

This was easily our worst game of the season. Our defence was not up to its usual standard and the strikers lacked accuracy and initiative. While the game was close we lost 2-3.  This is our first loss for the season and possibly the year. The good news is that we can only get better. Player of the Day goes to Rosie Roberts for her excellent defence.
Training takes place Mondays, 1pm to 2pm, at the Leisure Centre.

FLIPPA BALL - THE MARLINS - YEARS 3 & 4 - 20 AUGUST 2018

The Marlins had a very good game.  We had a couple of players away and needed to change some positions.  In spite of these changes the players got on with an entertaining game. The Marlins won 3-1. Player of the Day was Daniel Chen for great goal saving and throwing the ball.
Training takes place Mondays, 1pm to 2pm, at the Leisure Centre.

BASKETBALL - THE ASTEROIDS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 20 AUGUST 2018

We won 10-2 and against Stanmore Bay School.  We won  because we did great defending and only let the opposition score one goal.  I got Player of the Day for running around the court and attacking and defending.
Eli Kirkpatrick - Year 5

NETBALL - WENTWORTH STARS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 20 AUGUST 2018

This week was another fantastic effort from the Wentworth netballers.
It is great seeing our players continue to improve each week and gain the confidence to try new moves. We did not win this week but it certainly wasn’t for lack of effort!! The whole team were Players of the Day this week for carrying on despite having only 6 players. Good on you all!
Trainings take place every Thursday at lunchtime.  Please remember appropriate footwear and PE kit.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WARRIORS - 13 AUGUST 2018

It was another good win for the Year 5-6 Flippa Ball team this week, beating Orewa 7-2. While Orewa put up a good fight and had some strong, tall players, both our attack and defence stayed strong. James and Ella both did a fantastic job in goal, coupling their strong throwing arms with some brilliant saves. James also scored some great goals from the middle of the pool.
It was great to see Brooke and Rosie making some fearless tackles to get the ball from the opposition. Well done girls! This week's Player of the Day was Amy Akehurst, for her fabulous defence. Well done, Amy!
Training takes place Mondays, 1pm to 2pm, at the Leisure Centre.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 3 & 4 - MARLINS - 13 AUGUST 2018

This was the best game the Marlins had played.  It was a great team effort which saw the Marlins take a 5-3 win. Player of the Day was Daniel Vaudrey.
Training takes place Mondays, 1pm to 2pm, at the Leisure Centre.

BASKETBALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - ASTEROIDS - 13 AUGUST 2018

Our little team owned the court against our Orewa opponents with an awesome win, great team passing, and numerous goals particularly by Annie Duncan who was our well deserved Player of the Day.

NETBALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WENTWORTH STARS - 13 AUGUST 2018

It was a cold Thursday night when the Wentworth Stars stepped on court to face their Orewa opponents.  The unexpected change from the 6-a-side format to the traditional and familiar 7-a-side game, has been a hurdle that our Stars have valiantly faced in the past couple of weeks.  Transitioning to this new style of netball has seen our Stars develop a new understanding of positional play, off-side rules and defensive responsibilities.  Each team member has approached the games with a positive, 'never give up' attitude.  Unfortunately, the Stars were unable to dominate the scoreboard on Thursday despite the fact that everyone made a great contribution to the game.  Congratulations to Rosa Clark for an excellent effort under the goal..........5 goals!  A fantastic performance under pressure, Rosa!
Trainings take place every Thursday at lunchtime.  Please remember appropriate footwear and PE kit.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WARRIORS - 6 AUGUST 2018

The Warriors continued their winning run by chalking up a 6v0 win. At times we showed some brilliance, and with continued strategic play this team will maintain a strong presence in this league. Player of the Day was Rory Brabant for very good midfield play.
Training takes place Mondays, 1pm to 2pm, at the Leisure Centre.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 3 & 4 - MARLINS - 6 AUGUST 2018

Two new players joined us and each was thrown into unknown territory, with Ollie going on strike and Daniel on defence and goal. We lacked a bit of cohesion, but with some more trainings and games this team will become formidable. The result was 5v1 and Player of the Day was Isabella Paxton for excellent defence.
Training takes place Mondays, 1pm to 2pm, at the Leisure Centre.

BASKETBALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - ASTEROIDS - 6 AUGUST 2018

While we were unable to get a pattern in our game due to more than half the team changing positions, everyone did their best and had fun.  Unfortunately it was not enough against the very strong Kingsway Impact who won 22 – 4.
Player of the Day was Brooke Oliver for her unflagging commitment on both attack and defence.

NETBALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WENTWORTH STARS - 6 AUGUST 2018

It was a game of two halves last night when the Wentworth Stars took the court to face their Stanmore Bay foes!  In the first 20 minutes Stanmore Bay dominated possession and easily converted this into a healthy half time lead.  A determined and brave push by our shining Stars, coupled with sensational defence and accurate passages of play on attack, saw our team begin to claw back the Stanmore Bay lead.  Our Player of the Day, Katie Neilson, was calm and accurate, managing to sink some difficult long shots under pressure.  Well done Katie!  The final score was 9-8 to our Stars!  It was a fantastic game to watch, girls, and an excellent come-back after a tough game last week.  Keep it up!
Trainings take place every Thursday at lunchtime.  Please remember appropriate footwear and PE kit.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WARRIORS - 30 JULY 2018

The Warriors played two games. The first game was very physical and tough. We were put under pressure from the start but I am pleased to say that we did not lose focus and played a good, technical game. The result was 5v1 to the Warriors. Player of the Day was Ben Oliver for his outstanding defence.
The second game was no walk in the park either. Our defence was solid but we missed several goal scoring opportunities which would have made the scoreboard look very flattering. The Warriors won 6v1. Player of the Day was Ella Nathan for her goal scoring and her defensive work when in goal.

Training takes place Mondays, 1pm to 2pm, at the Leisure Centre.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 3 & 4 - MARLINS - 30 JULY 2018

The Marlins played their first game of the Term. It was a good game, played at a fast pace with lots of action. I was encouraged to see that the players used the skills they had learnt in Term 2. The result was 3v3 and Player of the Day was Alex Krehl for solid goal keeping and throwing the ball to his team mates.

Training takes place Mondays, 1pm to 2pm, at the Leisure Centre.

NETBALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WENTWORTH STARS - 30 JULY 2018

The Wentworth Stars were brave on Thursday evening as they took on a far more experienced Whangaparaoa team.  Each Stars player put their heart and soul into their attacking game and fought hard to make themselves available for the ball.  Wentworth valiantly soldiered on in defence, constantly trying to interrupt the flow of the game for their opposition.  Unfortunately the scoreboard did not reflect the superb effort our Stars put out on court.  Congratulations to you all for never giving up!  Each of you deserved the WHOLE TEAM Player of the Day award!
Trainings take place every Thursday at lunchtime.  Please remember appropriate footwear and PE kit.

FLIPPA BALL - THE WARRIORS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 25TH JUNE 2018

The Warriors experimented with the strikers and it seemed to work; there was better communication and positional play. The defenders did an outstanding job at making the opposition work hard to get any decent shots at goal. The final score was 14-2 to Wentworth. Player of the Day was Rosa Clark for excellent playing, both on defence and on attack.
Flippa Ball training for the Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6 teams will take place on Fridays at the Leisure Centre from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 3 & 4 - MARLINS - 25TH JUNE 2018

We were missing some players but the team adjusted and did their best. Our defence was solid, especially the goal keeping. The strikers got limited ball but did have some shots to goal. Unfortunately, none of these were converted into points and Wentworth lost 6-0.  Player of the Day was Sophie Imparato for very good defensive work.
Flippa Ball training for the Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6 teams will take place on Fridays at the Leisure Centre from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

BASKETBALL - THE ASTEROIDS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 25TH JUNE 2018

We were down to ten seconds on the clock. A boy on the other team was on his last penalty shot. The score was 11 - 10 to the Asteroids. The boy threw the ball straight through the hoop. It's a draw! 11 to 11! We played Whangaparaoa.
by Amy Akehurst

BASKETBALL - YEARS 3 & 4 - THE ROCKETS - 25TH JUNE 2018

Last week the Rockets played against Dairy Flat. Despite smashing the bumpy, orange ball through the white hoop and scoring, we lost by two points. However, it was a wonderful game played by the Rockets.

NETBALL - WENTWORTH STARS - 25 JUNE 2018

Due to the terrible weather there was no game played last Thursday.  However it was a fantastic game, two weeks ago.  The Wentworth Stars shone brightly, winning the game convincingly.  A very big congratulations to Caitlin Chen, our well-deserved Player of the Day.  Caitlin's defence and positioning throughout the court was superb!  Well done to the entire team for another wonderful win!
Netball trainings take place every Thursday at lunchtime.  Please remember appropriate footwear and PE kit.

ALUMNI NETBALL GAME - 10TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY - FRIDAY 22 JUNE 2018

Last Friday, Wentworth Primary and Alumni students challenged the rest of Wentworth College to a 10th Anniversary game of Netball. This game was being labelled "Grudge Match II", the first match-up being the Basketball game in Term 1. The non-Wentworth Primary team started out very strongly and scored 5 very quick points, however the Wentworth Primary Alumni team regrouped and started to dominate proceedings. The final score was 14-11 to Wentworth Primary and Alumni. Thank you to Olivo for helping to organise this event and to Mrs White for umpiring.

FLIPPA BALL - THE WARRIORS - YEARS 5 & 6 - 18 JUNE 2018

The Warriors had a good solid game, and during the second half they started to experiment with different positional plays and positions. This resulted in leaking some points, but the Warriors always had the game under control, winning 7-3. Player of the Day was James Nathan for outstanding goal keeping and ball control.
Flippa Ball training for the Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6 teams will take place on Fridays at the Leisure Centre from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 3 & 4 - THE MARLINS - 18 JUNE 2018

The Marlins had a tough game. At one stage it looked like the game was going to run away from them but three quick goals saw them draw equal. Unfortunately, the Marlins were unable to capitalise on this and ended up losing 7-3. Player of the Day was Luke Vaudrey for great hassling defence.
Flippa Ball training for the Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6 teams will take place on Fridays at the Leisure Centre from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - THE WARRIORS - 11 JUNE 2018

The Warriors continued their unbeaten record with a 4-1 win. The defenders played a key role in frustrating the opposition. Our strikers had a number of attempts at goal but could only convert four of these shots into points. Player of the Day was Rosie Roberts for her excellent defence.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 3 & 4 - THE MARLINS - 11 JUNE 2018

The Marlins had a great game. The strikers were able to find open space, they passed the ball amongst themselves looking for opportunities to take shots at goal. The defenders did an excellent job at keeping the opposition strikers away from attacking the goal. The score was 8-0 to the Marlins. Player of the Day was Chelsea Paxton.
Flippa Ball training for the Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6 teams will take place on Fridays at the Leisure Centre from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

BASKETBALL - THE ROCKETS & THE ASTEROIDS - YEARS 3 & 4, 5 & 6 - 11 JUNE 2018

It was Wentworth vs Wentworth this evening.  The Asteroids won and the Rockets lost.  It was 17-7.  The Player of the Day was Alexander Kawan for the most points scored and for his defence and attack.  It was a good game bus some people did unfortunately get hurt, but I think everyone enjoyed it!  The Rockets were lucky enough to get either 2 or 3 penalty shots.
Written by Benjamin Rist, Year 5

NETBALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - THE WENTWORTH STARS - 11 JUNE 2018

The Stars played Stella Maris and won with a score 19-8.  Lucy Fielding was Player of the Day for always marking and escaping her opponent.

Thursday night Netball was an absolute cracker of a game!  The Wentworth Stars faced an evenly matched opposition when they took on the ON Year 6 Strikers.  Both teams played at an outstanding defensive game which made for an exciting sideline watch.  Our Player of the Day, Ella Nathan, exuded defensive prowess as she shadowed her opponent all over the court, stealing the ball at every opportunity.  Congratulations on an excellent game Ella.  Stars, you are an exciting team to watch and I am certain that you are all proud of your 9 goals to 5 win.  I can't wait to watch next week's game!  See you on the court.

INTERSCHOOL CHESS - TUESDAY 15TH MAY 2018

17 Wentworth Primary students took part in the annual Hibiscus Coast Chess Tournament held in Silverdale last week. Students ranged from Years 2 to 6 with varying degrees of chess experience but all were keen players. There were almost 100 competitors from six different schools and each participant played seven matches. We witnessed many tough battles across the boards and, whatever the outcome of each game, the sporting behaviour displayed was wonderful.
Our top player was Vincent Liu (Year 6), who finished in 7th position overall but we had many others playing matches on the top 5 tables during the tournament. Wentworth School ended the tournament just beaten into 4th place. Congratulations to all our chess champions!
Team: Amy Akehurst, Rory Brabant, Kahn Heath, Elijah Kirkpatrick, Ananda Krageloh, Elsa Liu, Louis Liu, Vincent Liu, Corbus Luke, Ben Oliver, Brooke Oliver, Jessica Rensen, Thomas Rensen, Daniel Still, Claire Sun, Daniel Vaudrey, Luke Vaudrey.

FLIPPA BALL - YEARS 5 & 6 - WENTWORTH WARRIORS - 21ST MAY 2018

The Wentworth Marlins played well for their first game, and while there is a lot to learn, I was really pleased with their game. The final score was a 1-5 loss for Wentworth.  Player of the Day was Anna Langridge for her high work rate and passing the ball.

WEETBIX TRYATHLON - 26 MARCH 2018

he sun shone brightly on our Wentworth Weetbix Tryathletes but it was not quite as bright as the smiles on faces as they crossed the finish line!  Their commitment, dedication and 'give-it-a-go' attitude impressed all of the spectators as we witnessed our students challenge themselves to complete a swim, cycle and run............all before midday. To top off a fabulous event, Wentworth won a prize for the highest percentage of triathletes based on the school roll!  Wow!  What an achievement!  Once again, Wentworth has 'punched above its weight' (as Mr D would say) and proven that we may be a small school but we are HUGE in terms of both our school pride and our participation! Weetbix sponsored sports equipment and a chilli-bin filled with Watties products will be heading our way with help from Teresa Sell's family who kindly transported the goodies after the event.  Thank you!  A big thank you must also go to Michael Coutts and the team of Wentworth College students who gave up their free time to set up tents and give support to our budding athletes.  We appreciate their efforts and thank them for being such fabulous role models for their younger peers and ambassadors for the school.  Appreciation must also be given to all of the parents and families who awoke early Sunday morning and helped our Tryathletes prepare and get ready to make it to the start line. Without you, none of this would be possible.  Thank you!
Unfortunately we missed the opportunity to take a group photo as we were collecting our fabulous prize, so please keep your Weetbix T-shirts and medals handy as we will be requesting that you bring these into school for a group photo before the end of the term.
Bring on next year’s event!
